Signing Bonus - Up to $15,000
Position Summary:
Under the direct or indirect supervision of an RN, functions primarily in the scrub role on the OR team. Assists the team in providing quality individualized patient care during preoperative, intra-operative, and postoperative phases of the patient’s surgical experience.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Assists surgeon during surgical procedures. Possesses expertise in draping, passing, and assembly of instruments and equipment, anticipating surgeon’s needs
2. Exhibits a surgical conscience, watching for and reporting breaks in technique to prevent infection
3. Exhibits proactive critical thinking in the set up and preparation of the surgical suite, doing so in a cost-effective manner and taking into consideration the surgeon’s preference and patient-specific needs as identified through the surgery schedule
4. Maintains competence in all surgical specialties, demonstrates the ability to scrub any procedure with expertise, and demonstrates confidence and the ability to share this knowledge base through precepting students and new hire orientation
5. Works in collaboration with the entire surgical team to maintain a neat and orderly department and surgical suite, consistent and appropriately returning stock and supplies to prevent stockpiling in the OR suite
6. Coordinates equipment and supplies in preparation for the existing surgery schedule as well as looking ahead to future schedules and communicating needs
7. Is actively involved in the review, revision, and maintenance of the surgeon’s preference cards to accurately reflect changes needs and advancements in equipment and technology
8. Practices in accordance with AORN and AST
9. Possesses a working knowledge of sterilization cycles and their appropriate application to specific instrumentation and equipment
10. Works in conjunction with the surgical team to assure appropriate handling and labeling of patient specimens for diagnostic purposes
11. Supports departmental and organizations mission/vision/values and customer service initiative
12. Demonstrates interest in role and continually seeks opportunities for improvement, self-development, and professional growth
13. Exhibits dependability as evidenced by flexibility in shifting work assignments, performing assigned work within assigned time frame, and attending to new assignments promptly
14. Infrequent and appropriate use of unscheduled days off
15. Participates in continuing education programs to maintain upgraded clinical skills as new procedures are introduced
16. Performs other department related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required:
- Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology or equivalent Military training and/or LPN with 3 years documented scrub experience
- BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist
Preferred:
- Previous experience as a Certified Surgical Technician with experience in specialty areas
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.42 - $28.58 per hour
