Job Description

This position is full-time, exempt, not classified and covered under the Superior Court Handbook. This is an employee-at-will position.

Under the direction of the Director of Diagnostics, the Psychologist assists in the mental health diagnostics and treatment functions for juveniles in the Allen County Superior Court Family Relations Division including, but not limited to, administering psychological assessments, conducting clinical supervision, and formal education of the Diagnostics Unit staff and students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Administer Psychological Assessments and provide assessment reports, including treatment and placement recommendations, to the Court, of youth and their caregivers, as ordered by the Court or as directed by the Director of the Diagnostic Unit or the Director of Detention.
  • Collaborate obtaining any pertinent records; reviewing pertinent records to assist in planning Psychological Assessment administration; psychological test administration, scoring, and interpretation; clinical interviewing; report writing; providing treatment and placement recommendations to Court. Schedule and review of report information with caregivers, as requested, per policy.
  • Assess the juvenile’s mental health needs and assist in coordinating transfer to inpatient mental health facility, as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports, as required.
  • Review detention hearings schedule for coordination of suggested testing activity.
  • Participate in Placement Board and Dual Status meetings on a rotating basis.
  • Review juveniles’ records for past testing and basic test results and mental health issues.
  • Prepare and conduct various accepted diagnostic tests including scoring and interpreting test results.
  • Consults with Judicial Officials, Probation and Correctional staff in formal and informal situations.
  • Conduct clinical supervision and education of the Diagnostics Unit staff and intern students, as needed.
  • Provide staff supervision and intern training, as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements and Working Conditions

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Doctoral Degree Candidate (in process, “ABD”) in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or related field with completion of degree within a reasonable amount of time after beginning employment.
  • Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or related field preferred.
  • State of Indiana Licensed Psychologist preferred or the ability to obtain credential within a reasonable amount of time after beginning employment
  • State of Indiana Health Service Provider in Psychology (HSPP) credential preferred or the ability to obtain credential within a reasonable amount of time after beginning employment
  • Working knowledge in applying standard psychological theories and counseling techniques
  • Working knowledge of recommended and approved diagnostic tests including experience with ADOS-2 and Rorschach Inkblot Method encouraged
  • Experience with the application of crisis intervention, psychological assessment techniques, therapeutic theories, and counseling models and techniques
  • Follow the American Psychological Association Code of Ethics and all Federal and State Laws and Regulations regarding professional practice and confidential information
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Working knowledge of legal court directives and regulations
  • Administrative supervisory skills to manage staff and interns

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Psychologist works in a standard office environment with frequent sitting and the ability to move about freely. Frequent mental/visual effort and detailed inspection exist and very frequent typing, attention to detail, monitoring equipment and proofreading is to be expected. The Psychologist has frequent contact with potentially violent youth.
