Infectious Disease physician needed to work with hospitalist group at Texas Vista Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. 7 days on/7 days off would be ideal situation.


ABOUT SOUTHWEST GENERAL HOSPITAL

Southwest General Hospital is a DNV-accredited 327-bed facility offering acute inpatient care and psychiatric services to the residents of southwest San Antonio. For over 30 years Southwest General has been the sole inpatient healthcare facility in this sector of the city. The hospital has proudly earned accredited centers in: Chest Pain, Stroke, Level IV Trauma, Wound Care and Bariatric Services. The hospital is committed to providing high-quality health services and an excellent patient experience. Additional services include: minimally invasive surgical procedures through the da Vinci® Surgical System, a robust Emergency Medicine department with helipad, full Orthopedic surgical services, Women’s Health, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Hyperbaric Medicine, and Inpatient Rehabilitation.

Weather

Known for hot summers, San Antonio can get up to an average daily temperature of 89 degrees Fahrenheit (or higher) between late May and mid-September. While our summers may be warm, take some comfort in knowing that our winters are short, lasting about three months (late November to late February) and averaging temperatures between 43 and 70 degrees.

The Majestic Theatre

In the heart of San Antonio sits the Majestic Theatre, the city’s largest and oldest atmospheric theater. Tour the Alamo

Many would say the Alamo is the most famous spot in all of Texas. The historic site attracts people from far and wide. Founded in 1718 as Mission San Antonio de Valero, the Alamo has a rich history and heritage. Visit the Alamo to get a close and personal view of where the Battle of the Alamo happened. Allow yourself to experience what it might have been like to stand with Colonel William Barrett Travis, Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett when they lost their lives alongside 186 others fighting for independence on March 6, 1836. This enriching historic adventure is an an exciting learning experience for the whole family.

Military City

You may notice upon moving to San Antonio that there is a strong military presence. The city’s home to approximately 85,000 military personnel. San Antonio’s roots have been largely military-based since 1835 when Texas forces took over the then Spanish-held Alamo. San Antonio is home to the Fifth Army, Fort Sam Houston, and the headquarters for the U.S. Army Medical Command, as well as many Air Force Bases, including Randolph, Brooks and Lackland.

Fiestas

Fiesta San Antonio is a massive event that takes place each spring (since 1891). The event originally began as a solo parade in remembrance and honor of those who lost their lives in the battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto. The single parade has now evolved into a 17-day event, which includes impressive parades, festivities, food, music and and other attractions.

San Fernando Cathedral

This large Roman Catholic cathedral is the oldest church in the State of Texas; it receives visitors from all over the world. No matter your religious background, this church holds out open arms to any and all visitors wanting to attend the weekly mass. The cathedral is right in the middle of downtown San Antonio and within walking distance to the Alamo.

SPORTS

If you are a sports fan, you are in luck! San Antonio is home to many sports teams. NBA fans will know that the San Antonio Spurs call Alamo City home. The Spurs are loved by locals, and whether they win or lose, they will always have the support of their loyal fanbase here in the city. There are also a number of other sports teams, including the Minor League Baseball team (the San Antonio Missions), The North American Soccer League’s team (the San Antonio Talons) and the WNBA's San Antonio Silver Stars.

OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Bike Riding

If you love bike riding, you’ll enjoy San Antonio’s many options. There are may trails and bike paths for riders to enjoy, including the Mission Trail, which is about 20 miles long and runs all the way to Southtown. Also, be sure to check out the two-mile Alamo HemisFair Out & Back trail, which allows for a scenic tour of downtown San Antonio. In need of a bike? San Antonio has B-Cycle stations scattered throughout the entire city where you can borrow a bike and go, returning it after your adventure!

San Antonio River Walk

The River Walk in San Antonio, also known as the Paseo del Rio, is one of our country’s most beautiful and famous walking paths. All of the stairways and walkways along the path are made out of cobblestone dating back to the 1930’s. The River Walk is home to some of San Antonio’s greatest restaurants, shops, cafes, and entertainment sights.

Breckenridge Park

If you love outdoor adventure and a good time, you will love Breckenridge Park. Offering a golf course, walking and biking trails, fishing in the San Antonio River, playgrounds and picnic areas for children, as well as the San Antonio Zoo, this park has it all.
