Summary:
Crow Engineering provides engineering design and consultancy services to its clients in the wood products, industrial, and heavy commercial industries. The senior project manager position will be responsible for managing client’s projects throughout the southeast. Typical projects include sawmill, veneer, EWP, plywood, and other heavy industrial modernization projects. The individual would be responsible for handling projects through their entire lifecycle. The position must be able to earn the respect of our clients through: Listening to their challenges, collaborating with their teams, and developing solutions that exceed their expectations.
Crow Engineering has a highly tenured organization that has a wealth of experience in the wood products industry, specifically with sawmill systems. Candidates are required to show a respect for and are adept at adopting proven design standards while balancing the needs of introducing innovation. We require an individual to respect the 40 years of experience at Crow Engineering while helping the ownership transition this knowledge and processes to the next generation of engineering toolsets and capabilities.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:
Project Management

Act as the single point of contact, or as a part of a larger team in support of our client’s requests for support.

The individual must overcommunicate in their role, ensuring that both internal and external stakeholders are clear about priorities and expectations.

Develop and execute to project plans for each of their projects.

Must be able to coordinate vendor activities amongst professional services, material and equipment vendors.

Ensures that safety is held to the utmost priority in our designs and project execution.

Acts as the last and final quality assurance check for all work produced by Crow Engineering.

Ensures that our overall quality of work is held to the highest standards.

Responds in an extremely urgent manner to all client requests.
Estimation and Financial Controls Responsibilities

Can generate estimates for hours required to complete a design project for engineering, design, and drafting times.

Ability to go onsite and create clear and accurate dimensional field notes for proposals and project documentation.

Self manages team design time to ensure the clients resources are being appropriately used for a project.

Can generate and communicate construction level estimates for projects.

Can proactively have difficult, yet professional, conversations with team members when scope change or issues occur that may impact the financial performance of the role.

Ensures that Crow Engineering’s margin expectations are met or exceeded for all work performed.
Corporate Responsibilities
-
This role will be responsible for growing our footprint in the southeast through providing high quality service. While this individual will not be responsible for direct business development and marketing, they will be required to solicit current clients while on a project for additional opportunities and on occasion travel within the region to support business development activities.

This position will need to be able to forecast workload requirements for the extended team and prioritize their work. Any periods of under or overutilization of team resources must be communicated through these forecasts.

Crow is looking for a person who can help lead a future team of individuals within the region. This individual will be responsible (in conjunction with a local principal engineer) for hiring local PM, designer, and other candidates within the region that will help Crow build its services network.
Client Responsibilities
-
Individual must be able to communicate directly with clients regarding project updates, tasks, and issues for minor to moderate projects.

In working at our client’s locations, employee is responsible for their safety and the safety of those around them.
-
Employee is responsible for understanding the safety procedures, personal protection equipment, lock out tag out requirements, and appropriate emergency response actions required while onsite at our client’s locations.
-
The individual must make the client feel like they are integral into the design. This person must solicit feedback and build relationships at the mills at all levels, from the plant managers to maintenance and operations staff.

Must be able to work around our client’s shutdown schedules to obtain critical field information as necessary.

Ensures revision control is in place and effective when working on client designs.

Can help build standards, best known methods, and training documentation for future new hires.

Can professionally work through difficult situations.

Must be able to handle multiple client requests and projects at the same time. 10-20 projects at any given time will be a baseline for this position.

Working knowledge and experience with material handling systems. Individuals with experience with sawmill or general wood products industry expertise are preferred.

Must be able to go into field situations and be able to measure up, document, and communicate field data to the design team.

Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project.
Qualifications:
- PE Certification or Degree as an Engineer is Required, preferably in Mechanical Engineering

>7 years of relevant work experience within the wood products industry, in an equivalent position is acceptable in lieu of PO for degree.

AutoCAD experience, or similar systems to AutoCAD. Experience with 3D modeling systems.

Experience in running calculations to determine basic design parameters for equipment – speeds, timing, etc

Experience with engineering change order and version control systems.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

In-depth knowledge of process driven manufacturing facilities.

Experience with risk analysis and process validation methods

Experience taking onsite measurements and building “as built” documentation prior to generating

PLC programming experience is a plus, but not required.

Must have a valid state license with no infractions in past year.
