Responsibilities:
Join the UMIAQ Environmental team! We are looking
for residents in North Slope communites to provide
support for Environmental Cleanup Services in
Anaktuvuk Pass this winter. All applicants must be able to
successfully complete a background check and pass
drug screenings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilites:
Must learn and follow safety regulations, and take actions to avoid
potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment,
other workers, or falling objects. Operator will locate underground services,
such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning work. Must monitor operations to
ensure that health and safety standards are met. Operator will adjust
handwheels and depress pedals to control attachments, such as blades,
buckets, scrapers, or swing booms. Also start engines, move throttles,
switches, or levers, or depress pedals to operate machines,
such as bulldozers, trench excavators, road graders, or backhoes. Operator
will coordinate machine actions with other actvities,
positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew
members. Also load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, or other materials,
using trucks, crawler tractors, power cranes, shovels, graders, or related
equipment. Must check fuel supplies at sites to ensure adequate
availability. Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in
successive passes over working areas to remove topsoil,
vegetation, or rocks or to distribute and level earth or terrain. Equipment
operator will be responsible for performing work tasks in a safe, and orderly
fashion, as well as perform daily safety inspections of
construction machinery. Additional duties shall include maintaining jobsite,
cleanup & trash haul, manual material handling involving heavy
lifting of a variety of materials, material staging and handling.
Qualifications:
Required Skills:
All employees much pass a non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and
follow all UIC DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program guidelines and
requirements.
- Employee must have a valid driver’s license and three year clean driving
record. Employee must follow all UIC Authorized Driver Policy and
Procedures.
Preferred Experience:
Must have hazardous waste experience and 40 hr HAZWOPER
certification, or be able to successfully complete 40 hr HAZWOPER
course (prior to start date).

foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears.
- Running, maneuvering, navigatng, or driving vehicles or
mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger
vehicles, aircraft, or water craft.
- Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity
to operate machines or processes (not including
computers or vehicles).
- Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and
subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in
person.
- Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines,
devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate
primarily on the basis of mechanical (not electronic)
principles.
