Job Description
SUMMARY: Liaison Librarians cultivate productive relationships with the Library’s affiliated institutions in order to integrate library resources into the curricula, research, and clinical operations of the Texas Medical Center (TMC), which is the largest medical complex in the world, a pioneer of medical innovations and advancements and a leader in collaborative medicine and research.
This position will be the library’s point of contact for faculty and students as liaison to one of the designated institutions served by the TMC Library. Librarians are expected to master literature-searching skills to provide instruction to students and faculty, as well as to work independently doing requested literature searches and designated systematic review searches.
Liaison Librarians promote services and resources; participate in professional and scholarly organizations and activities; pursue personal professional development; and maintain awareness of the evolving library and information science trends.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a working, interactive, and dynamic relationship with faculty, students, and staff in assigned institutions
- Conduct comprehensive literature searches and systematic reviews
- Provide consultations to meet the research information needs of students and faculty
- Teach classes on literature searching, databases, and various related topics
- Promote library resources and services by participating in liaison institution meetings
- Create specialized library guides for liaison institutions, including videos, webinars
- Provide on-call reference service
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure that clients' needs are met
- Provide assistance and support to other librarians and staff when needed
Education and Experience:
Non-entry Level Required Qualifications: A Master’s degree in library science (or equivalent) from an ALA-Accredited program, working knowledge of medical libraries, and two years of advanced searching experience in medical databases.
Non-entry Level Desired: Experience conducting literature systematic review searches, background in health or life sciences.
Entry Level Required Qualifications: A Master's degree, in library science (or equivalent) from an ALA-Accredited program. Have a general knowledge of Boolean Operators and how they work.
Entry Level Desired Qualifications: Coursework or internship incorporating literature searching of databases such as Medline (Ovid or PubMed), Embase (Elsevier or Ovid), Cochrane Library, etc., content specific to medical libraries, or other experience related to health or life sciences.
