The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) – Parks and Recreation Specialist for our Recreation Management Crew in Poynette, WI.
The Recreation Management Team is a traveling property development and maintenance crew that covers WDNR properties across several counties. The work focus is on boat access sites, Fishery and Wildlife Areas, Streambank Protection Areas, and State Natural Areas as well as assisting in State Parks, Forests, and Trails as needed. These positions work predominantly independently however, group work will occur.

Position Summary
These positions are responsible for a combination of outdoor maintenance and/or groundskeeping work in addition to providing customer service for property visitors. Parks and Recreation Specialists often operate machinery such as UTV's, skid steers, chainsaws, hand tools, power tools, mowers, equipment transport, and other motorized vehicles.
60% Perform maintenance of grounds and facilities to ensure they conform to established standards, mow and trim grass, signage installation, pick up litter, clean public use areas, chainsaw operation to remove trees and brush, Kiosk construction and/or repair, mitigating and resolving potential safety concerns, parking area, road and trail surface repair , operate vehicles and heavy equipment, and perform maintenance to equipment.
20% District coverage will include travel with a work vehicle on fishery areas, public boat access, state natural areas, and wildlife properties in the assigned area. Due to the independent work, candidates must have excellent skills in prioritization, planning, communications, and organization. In addition, the selected candidate must be able to drive a state vehicle. Candidates with three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years, or who have an OWI/DUI violation within the past year are barred from driving state vehicles.
15% Manage properties and their facilities to protect public health and safety. Which includes note taking completion of designated use inspections and entering data on the Land Management System computer program.
5% Assist the Recreation Specialist, Ranger, Area Supervisor with monitoring the work and performance of other team members or volunteers and any other duties as assigned. Assist Parks and Forests as needed.
Salary Information
This position pays between $17.00 - $18.00 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 15-04. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
Limited Term Employment: This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.
LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.
Residency Requirement: In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications below, the selected candidate must be eligible to drive a state vehicle and meet the following criteria:
Have a valid driver’s license
Be at least 18 years of age
Have a minimum of two years of licensed driving experience
Have not had three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years
Have no OWI/DUI violations within the past year
Required Qualifications:
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public
Candidates must think creatively and use problem solving skills
Knowledge, skills and experience of equipment maintenance operation
Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual
